The Future Africa Conference Venues
The Future Africa conference venue is within easy access of the OR Tambo International Airport. The venue belongs to the University of Pretoria, and is located on the University’s tranquil Innovation Africa Campus. The facility forms part of the Future Africa research institute, a pan-African platform that makes fundamentally new approaches to research and innovation possible that span disciplinary fields and geo-political boundaries. Through the efforts of a growing network of leading scientists and exceptional young talent, Future Africa is set to inspire science excellence to transform Africa and the world.
The conference facilities include an auditorium that can host 230 delegates (up to 100 delegates in terms of the country’s COVID-19 risk-adjusted regulations). Its modern audio-visual environment facilitates interactive panel discussions. Overlooking the auditorium is a hospitality hub, which includes an extended dining hall at which catered meals are offered for delegates. Conference accommodation is also available at Future Africa, with beautiful views of the Future Africa Campus.
The one-bedroom guest rooms have ample space with uncapped Wi-Fi, a coffee station and bar-sized fridge, and a working station with overhead lamp. Its vast gardens were designed to focus on the ability of the urban landscape to provide food for fauna and people, and highlight the potential that African plants can provide. The gardens offer a living and functional testament to a predominantly indigenous landscape as a food resource, and how this resource can be utilised. The landscape therefore strives to find the perfect balance between productiveness and other demands, stemming from a human-centric design.

Safety of the Venue
Future Africa is a secluded, independent complex that is wholly owned by the University of Pretoria. It is only accessible to campus visitors and is isolated from the hustle and bustle of the busy city centre. It therefore provides a calm, relaxing atmosphere. It is located within the University’s Hillcrest Campus on the institution’s Experimental Farm. The enclosed precinct is under the access control of the University’s security services, whose presence ensures the safety of visitors. Its compliance and all other aspects of campus governance adhere to the policies of the University of Pretoria, including the procedures governing campus security, which are managed in collaboration with the University’s directorates for facilities management, security, and occupational health and safety.
